Make Sure your Pet is Scanned if Lost for Implanted Microchip.tag:arzone.ning.com,2016-08-29:4715978:Topic:1596012016-08-29T16:17:19.351ZRichard W. Firthhttp://arzone.ning.com/profile/RichardWFirth

I am submitting in this thread a CARE2 Petition request concerning the mandatory necessity of scanning microchips implanted in all pets to see they get properly located before any put downs occur. Here is the actual petition:

"If you're a pet owner, then one of your worst fears is that your favorite furry friend will get lost. That's why we implant our dogs and cats with microchips. But if no one scans the chip, chances are you won't ever see your pet again.

"Right now,…

I am submitting in this thread a CARE2 Petition request concerning the mandatory necessity of scanning microchips implanted in all pets to see they get properly located before any put downs occur. Here is the actual petition:

"If you're a pet owner, then one of your worst fears is that your favorite furry friend will get lost. That's why we implant our dogs and cats with microchips. But if no one scans the chip, chances are you won't ever see your pet again.

"Right now, only eight states require animal shelters to scan for microchips. And there aren't any requirements for pet stores and veterinary clinics. That means even if your dog or cat is microchipped, they could be put up for adoption, sold, kept by whoever found them, or even euthanized without you ever knowing what happened.

"Care2 member Kara lives in Texas, and was horrified to learn that her state is one of the many without a microchip law. She created a petition to demand that the Texas State Senate pass legislation requiring all animal shelters, pet stores, and veterinary clinics to scan microchips. Will you sign it?

"Scanning animals for microchips isn't only about ensuring that lost pets make it back to their rightful owner. It's also about reducing overcrowding in shelters and the number of animals needlessly being put down.

"After a quick scan, many of the animals that wind up in a shelter would simply be reunited with their family. How easy it would be to guarantee a happy ending for lost pets, while also freeing up resources and space for those animals who truly need a new forever home.

"The more people who speak out, the more likely it is that the Texas State Senate will step up and do their part to save innocent animals' lives. So sign Kara's petition now demanding mandatory microchip scans in Texas. A victory here could also inspire other state legislatures to pass similar laws, as well."

THIS ACTION NEED NOT JUST STOP IN TEXAS. FOR THOSE STATES THAT DO NOT HAVE SUCH A LAW, THE TIME IS NOW TO START SIMILAR ACTION.
ARZone Intersectionality Interview 5 - Nzinga Youngtag:arzone.ning.com,2016-07-24:4715978:Topic:1586012016-07-24T01:29:36.949ZAnimal Rights Zonehttp://arzone.ning.com/profile/admin

Lack of a cortex is flimsy grounds for denying pain to fish, for on that criterion we must also then deny it to all nonmammals, including birds, which goes against scientific consensus. Notwithstanding science’s fundamental inability to prove anything, the precautionary principal dictates that we should give the benefit of the doubt to fish, and the state of the oceans dictates that we act on it now.

The world community is in a staggering situation, with civil wars killing innocent people, serious droughts affecting the availability of potable water, and systematic oppression kicking down the same peoples, generation after generation. In all of this conflict, in all of this strife, there are few voices who rise above the cacophony of dissenters with reason and righteousness, speaking for the voiceless and beaten down people who are lost in the storm of the inequity of our times.

Where this inequity is created stands within the systems in place, but it is within our reach to bring these injustices to an end. We, an informed, intelligent, advanced network of global citizens owe it to our own species, to every species, to end the exploitation and suffering once and for all.

There is nothing radical in this notion that no one creature on this blessed planet deserves to be abused. A civilized human would no more beat a dog than his fellow man. The power is within our hands to end world hunger. Why do children still go hungry at night? Where is the justice, where is the mercy, as we relish in the high availability of food and clean water?

It is not to say that this is something we do not deserve. This is to say that all humans deserve adequate nutrition and water supplies. All humans deserve access to preventative health care as well as diagnostic health care. All humans have a right to practice whichever religion suits our hearts and souls.

Are borders for our own protection, or simply a denial of human rights? Where does the proverbial line begin and end? Today, children are sent alone, terrified, deported back to the lands of war and violence that they fled for their lives from. Love for our fellow human beings is lacking obviously, when we look at their tear-stained faces and send them away for being born in a different place.

Love is the only reason our species has survived. Familial and romantic love are personal, but we are all due to love and compassion for our fellow beings. It’s time to reject the notion that goodwill on Earth and kindness toward our fellows is idealistic drivel. I repeat, love is the only reason we are alive. Love is what gives us hope in the darkest hours, and in this fading of light we currently perceive, it is difficult to tell if the dawn is breaking, or if there is only perpetual dusk, fading into the blackest midnight.
Occam's Razor and Veganismtag:arzone.ning.com,2015-10-07:4715978:Topic:1513002015-10-07T05:17:09.468ZCarolyn Baileyhttp://arzone.ning.com/profile/CarolynBailey

Abstract: I draw comparisons between veganism and Occam’s razor contending that they are similar in being parsimonious principles – one to do with epistemology and the other to do with animal ethics. Veganism isn’t the most we can do for animals but rather it is more of a neutral position – the least we can do – removing support for animal exploitation as far as is possible and practical. Further steps can be taken in addition to veganism such as other environmental concerns but these in themselves are not arguments against the position. Everyone has some criteria for their extension of moral consideration to animals and I argue it should be drawn at least as far as veganism.

If you are as angry as I and many other Americans are over the brutal and senseless killing of that wonderful animal known as Cecil the Lion here are positive ways you can do something concrete about it.

First you need to contact the Government of Zimbabwe. Their contact information is:

The Hon. S. Kasukuwere, Minister Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate
11th Floor Kaguvi Building,
Cnr 4th Street/Central Ave P Bag
7753 Causeway
Harare, CA

Tel: 04 700991–9

E-Mail: ministry@environment.gov.zw

You need to tell them they must fully prosecute Mr. Palmer, his guide and the farmer who allowed them to hunt Cecil on their land for any violation of existing laws concerning poaching and animal abuse. They must be made aware that this is now an international incident and if proper punishment is not meted out to the guilty parties a worldwide boycott could form. Also if they truly want to stop such incidents from happening again they must set the example by imposing long time prison sentences and fines on the offenders and if existing laws are not strong enough, make them stronger.

Then contact:

Mr. Dan Ashe, Director
U. S. Fish and Wildlife Svc.
Department of the Interior
1849 C Street, N.W.
Washington DC 20240

Phone: (202) 208-3100
E-Mail: feedback@ios.doi.gov
Web: Feedback form

Tell them:

1) We need the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to release their final rule on the listing of the African lion under the Endangered Species Act to help prevent imports of trophy animals killed in outrageous circumstances.

2) We also need USFWS to look into violations of the Lacey Act. If there have been, Mr. Palmer and any accomplices must be held fully accountable.

3) Officials in Zimbabwe already arrested two Zimbabweans. Public pressure must continue so they are held accountable as well as any business they were connected to -- these bloody and violent trophy hunting businesses cannot get away with this cruelty.

Finally write the Governor of Minnesota and tell him actions speak louder than words when he commented about the killing saying, “Just horrible I'm just ed with that man". His contact information is:

Governor Mark Dayton Office Office of the Governor & Lt Governor
116 Veterans Service Building
20 W 12th Street
St. Paul, MN 55155

Telephone Numbers

Telephone: 651-201-3400
Toll Free: 800-657-3717
Minnesota Relay: 800-627-3529

Fax: 651-797-1850

e-mail: http://mn.gov/governor/contact-us/form/

Tell him to tighten up on laws in his state that would restrict the importation of any animal or any parts thereof outside the United States. This would stop hunters from going overseas to do their trophy hunting and bringing the animal or its parts thereof back into the state for any reason.

Also shut down all zoos, particularly roadside ones and ship all the animals to an accredited animal sanctuary.
These are all positive ways we can honor Cecil so losing his life will not be in vain.
