    Sarah--

Maybe it would help you to at least get to know some other vegans in your area?  You could check out this:   https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vegan-Sligo/215528968478165  looks like they have a meetup coming up soon.

I can't really advise, but Im familiar with how frustrating it can be when others have this disconnect--where vegans see living breathing beings with lives of their own that these creatures value, farmers and others see them as a means to an end, a profit, a livelihood, who will get sent off to the "factory" without a second thought. It is just sooo ingrained in the culture here that its difficult for people to begin to think outside the box.    It sounds like your husband may think that the issue with animals is just a welfare issue, hence his wanting your input on how to raise them differently than they are raised on factory farms, if i understand correctly. It seems then, that the bottom line may be that you will have to emphasize that it is not only the way they are raised that is a problem, but the very fact that they are raised at all for human use; the fact that each and every animal used in animal agriculture, whether for dairy or meat or eggs, all face death at the "factory" at the end, and how this, in itself, is not OK. that its not only the treatment, but its the very idea of them being a commodity itself that is a problem.  Not sure if thats helpful and sorry I dont have much else to offer; I hope you are able to connect with some other vegans locally...being able to meet other vegans "in real life" does make a world of difference in terms of feeling supported.

    West Kerry,

Thank you so much for your reply I found it really helpful. I am actually running the vegan sligo FB page. I set it up for the very purpose of meeting vegans as I am the only vegan I know personally as of yet. I have joined some other vegan outreach too because I feel that if I surround myself with people who know more than I do about veganism I will b able to tackle the arguments put up by others with alot more confidence.

Thank you again for your reply.  :)
