The Time to Evolve Our Consciousness is Now: Kathleen Lowson’s Groundbreaking Film Cry of the Innocent Makes Us Think Before We Buy

The Time to Evolve Our Consciousness is Now: Kathleen Lowson’s Groundbreaking Film Cry of the Innocent Makes Us Think Before We Buy

It has been said that all art seeks to explore and understand the human condition. What distinguishes us as humans? How do we differ from our fellow animal companions? Is it our proclivity for self-reflexivity, our ability to acknowledge our place in the universe, and our endless desire to expand our knowledge? Perhaps. Yet, it is my firm conviction that it is our inherent drive for empathy that is what renders us truly humane. It is this aspect of our consciousness that director Kathleen Lowson wants us to explore, and her film Cry of the Innocent: The Voices That Can’t…

The Seal Slaughter in Canada is Unnecessary and Cruel

Although Canada is known as a country of beautiful wilderness, peaceful politics, social welfare programs, high education rates, low poverty, excellent health care, and friendly people, there is a dark side to this nation’s otherwise beneficent ways: the seal slaughter. Each year, more and more seals are brutally killed, many of which are three months old or younger. Seals are gentle and playful animals that reside…

Put an End to the Dolphin, Whale, and Shark Slaughter

Globally, dolphins, whales, and sharks are mercilessly slaughtered for economic gain. These creatures are in need of our help more than ever, as the rates of murder are increasing and creating a state of global alarm for our oceans. Dolphins are often slaughtered so that…

Factory Farming, Animal Cruelty, and the Environment

Factory farming delivers 40% of the meat consumed by the world each year. Though it is dubbed an 'intensive' technique of agricultural cultivation of animals for meat production, the term seems designed to understate the cruel methods associated with achieving an 'efficient' and 'intensive' production process.…

ABOUT ME

Dr.Shenita Etwaroo (ShenitaEtwaroo) on Twitter

Shenita Etwaroo is an animal rights advocate, a vegan, author and a volunteer at a local animal shelter. She holds a doctorate degree in religious studies, and presently pursuing other avenues in academia. She also holds numerous Diplomas and Certificates in Theology, Veterinary, Healthcare, and Animal Law and Humane Studies.

Shenita has written fiction, short stories and numerous poems and articles. Her latest work include the upcoming “A Rabbit Called Neon “aimed at young readers, alongside the just-released “ Quest for Justice” Series, which launched with “Alexandra.”

Although she has been writing for many years, her formal work began while participating in journal authoring at a secondary school where she taught English and Literature. Inspired by her bunny, Neon (Neo), who saved her life, Shenita has associated with a variety of animal groups and is an active voice for the voiceless and vulnerable.

Shenita’s love for animals began when she was a little girl. From her earliest years, she would provide food and shelter for helpless, abandoned creatures. She is committed to work for the welfare of animals who she considers innocent creatures that have to bear heart stopping cruelties just because of inherently cruel humans. Truly, she identifies with the inherent innocence of every animal born in this world, and is a practicing vegan, in a further show of compassion and support.

It was a special bond she shared with her bunny, Neon (Neo)—who saved her life—that motivated her to safeguard the lives of other innocent animals. In memory of her beloved baby, soul companion, best friend, angel and family, Shenita has been aligned with numerous animal rights groups and shelters as a helping hand for the voiceless and vulnerable. It was through Neo she was able to see the world differently, and it was that speechless creature who painted her life with vibrant colors of joys and happiness.

These acts that compel animals to undergo brutal cruelties just in the name of human welfare or amusement are in no way acceptable to her. Such crimes as fur farming, seal hunts, vivisection, animal testing and blood sports are all heinous acts that Shenita hopes to help bring an abrupt end to—while fighting for the conviction of those found guilty of conducting these injustices.

Through her endeavors, she intends to bring a change in the lives of innocent creatures that have undergone inexplicable sufferings, and hopes the world soon will be a better place for all. She firmly believes animals deserve the same love, care and affection as humans, and urges that the entire human community feel the love for animals.
