<p>Great article indeed. However my question is: Would it matter less if the animal lacked the same level of cognition and awareness of a 3 year old child? To me, it is sad and heart wrenching regardless of the level of cognition. Many animals may not possess the same level of cognition and awareness of a 3 year old child or a pig, it still does not mean that they deserve to be killed.</p>

<p>The sad fact is that to many people around the world, meat tastes too good for them to actually examine the feelings of any animal they are about to eat. The fact that society is inundated with ads telling us to eat animals or use some part of one or another is helping to minimize or cover up the fact that the animals may have feelings and should not be murdered. All the fast food chains, all the commercials on television, all the food channels, all the print and radio ads that glamorize and celebrate the wonderful taste of it, all of that seems to keep people from either knowing or caring that pigs have the same cognition as a 3 year old or that any living animal suffers when they are killed.</p>
