I have two rescue dogs and would like to put them on a vegan diet, I have been cooking pasta, veg, rice for them but feel that they may need supplements or more varied meals. Can anyone supply me with a recipe that Ican cook for them.
My guys eat vegan kibble for the specific nutrients & I add vegies, rice etc. I did some homework last year before I changed my dogs over & vegan kibble gave the RDA of everything they need for good health them so the extra vegies & such are additional nutrients plus something yummy (not that they taste anything as they are labradors & eat their meals in a nano second). They are the happiest, gentlest & most energetic dogs. As an aside they are as dumb as all get out too but that has nothing to do with being vegan :)
I also joined a Yahoo Group on Vegan dog owners discussing home made vegan dog food choices. I learned a lot! I was not able to implement this idea as all three of my personal companion fur-babies are over 12 yrs old now and not able to make this type of a change at this point in their lives, with the health issues they now have. The people gave excellent suggestions and many health issues were also addressed. Seems like you have gotten a lot of responses and I am sure you are well on your way to discovery and success! I congratulate you for your efforts. My mom was a dog rescuer in the bye gone days and we used to always cook our dogs vegan foods with vitamin supplementation, that was available at that time(50's-70's), daily with much success. Our street dogs lived long, healthy lives without any vet care or vaccinations. Luckily, I grew up thinking it is perfectly normal to cook fresh veggie foods + grains for the fur babies. We never did this for the cats though.
