FAMILY and friends of animal rights campaigner Jill Phipps will mark the 17th anniversary of her death today.

The 31-year-old died on February 1, 1995, after being crushed by a lorry outside Coventry Airport as she protested against the transportation of live veal calves.

Throughout her life Jill campaigned for animal rights and each year supporters remember the campaigner and what she fought for. People are being urged to hold events across the city in support of animals.

After Jill’s death, Coventry Airport stopped transportation of live veal calves.

Floral tributes will be laid at a memorial plaque which was placed in the spot where she died

For those not familiar with Jill, and her mother, Nancy. Shannon Keith covered their story in "Behind the Mask", and also spoke about them briefly in Shannon's ARZone chat. http://arzone.ning.com/profiles/blogs/transcript-of-shannon-keiths

Thanks for posting this. RIP Jill Phipps.

We did a piece commemorating Jill over at Conflict Gypsy that includes mainstream media articles from the time of her murder. http://www.conflictgypsy.com/2012/02/in-memory-of-jill-phipps/
