Hi Jennifer, I would suggest a computer search with the words, "vegan egg and dairy substitutes". There are so many sites, you can look them over and decide which ones resonate with you! You have already done so much to educate your children. You may just have to let them come along at their own pace. Cooking them delicious vegan dishes and desserts should help too! As far as the dogs, we did research and decided to feed our rescued dogs vegan food. We use Natural Balance Vegetarian and Evolution. These foods are a bit expensive, but we personally couldn't choose to feed our dogs dead animals. We will not have cats because of this since they are carnivores. Dogs are omnivores and ours have done very well with vegan food. It may be best, for now, not to worry about this type of thing. Concentrate on yourself and learn all you can. The internet is just the best for this. Check out all the vegan sites, blogs, recipes on line. Also, let me know if you are having trouble finding the answers you need or if you just need to talk! Take care, Jeanne
Hi Jennifer, Congratulations on your new adventure into a compassionate and healthy life! It can be daunting at first to figure out what exactly some of the more unfamiliar ingredients are that make their way into prepared baked goods. Try googling "Hidden Animal Ingredients". I've found I feel better making treats instead of buying them. Perhaps getting a good vegan cookbook, like The Joy of Vegan Baking, by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, could help. Maybe your children would be interested in baking their own treats, or if not, you could bake for them. Would they be willing to watch an on-line video with you like From Farm to Fridge or Earthlings? It might help them understand why you have chosen to be vegan. Let me know if you have any more questions. I am happy to try to help you!
