Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism

Cow Save: The Documentary

Bear witness to the growing nonviolent movement for animal rights and workers' rights.

Michael Sizer-Watt set out to make an animal rights film, but then something very profound happened as he started following the advocates around who bear witness, and show cows who are about to be slaughtered dignity and compassion for the very first time. Read on, and watch the video in which Michael speaks about this important film to learn more, and learn how you can help.

“I became aware that this film needs to be made not just to help liberate animals from violence, but also to show everyone that respect and dignity really is the core of how we’re going to end injustice.” ~ MIchael Sizer-Watt

Short Summary

Hi, my name is Michael Sizer-Watt and I'm an advocate for compassionate living and a film maker. My last major project in film was working as a cinematographer on the forthcoming movie "Saving Dinah" by Animal Alliance of Canada.

I've begun production on my feature length documentary, which consists mainly so far of following the Toronto Cow Save members as they bear witness for cows being brought to slaughter. I'm filming them as they implement the methods of non-violent protest that were developed and honed by great thinkers such as Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.

Why this Campaign?

I've launched this campaign so that I may continue to work full time on the film, and also to purchase some equipment.

I want to continue working on a full time basis on this film is because following the members of Cow Save is only one part of many in the production of this movie. The slaughter industry is a very secretive one, so the research and investigation I'm doing for this film is tedious. This information is critical though, because there are social, psychological, economic effects of slaughterhouses on employees and even people living in neighborhoods nearby. I have also arranged interviews with academics specializing on these issues.

The gear I require for this film consists of a dedicated external RAID storage system and a video camera stabilizing system. The RAID system is a secure set of hard drives to keep my foogate in multiple copies. The camera stabilizer is necessary because following the protesters on the ground is often high paced and running around with the camera hand held does not produce suitably stable images.

Perks

With my goal of $10,000, I will be able to purchase the needed equipment (mentioned above) and spend the next 4 months dedicated full time to the film. Depending on how much is finally raised, I may consider running a second campaign to fund a second production stage and post-production. For now I want to keep my requests realistic.

Every contributor will be listed in the film credits, regardless of the amount contributed. If you contribute, you deserve recognition, so unless you prefer to remain anonymous, you will see your name in the film credits.

Also, every person who contributes will be placed in a draw for a recorded skype interview which will be posted on the forthcoming film website. I will conduct the interview, joined by Anita Krajnc & Paul York. Paul and Anita are both founding members of Toronto Cow Save and will both be profiled in the film. The winner of the draw may opt to be interviewed him or herself, or nominate a friend or activist to be interviwed instead. The interview will take place after the film is produced (approx. 1 year from now.)

The Impact

My goal for this film is to spread awareness on an international scale about the unacceptable nature of violence toward animals and the incredible value of organizing groups in any movement to bear witness against injustice. I truly feel the model implemented by Toronto Cow Save can and should spread globally.

Other Ways You Can Help

Don't forget that dollars are not the only ways to help! You can share through indiegogo, facebook, twitter, tell your friends about the film, hold cruelty-free bake sales to raise funds for donation to the film and follow the forthcoming webpage for updates and calls for assistance!
