Animal Rights Zone

Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism

Blackfish

In UK Cinemas 26 July 2013

Blackfish will examine the tragic truth about orca whales in captivity.

Despite there being no known recording of orca whales ever killing humans outside of captivity, Tilikum, who was captured off the coast of Norway from his family group, with an older male and female in 1983, has been involved in the deaths of three humans. This film documents the potential dangers, and shows some of the possible tragic outcomes of holding intelligent, sentient individuals such as Tilikum in captivity - both for Tilikum and those in charge of keeping him imprisoned.

I saw this film yesterday, and highly recommend it. It's an excellent educational tool for those who may not be aware of the truth behind establishments such as Seaworld, and how much these individuals are exploited and oppressed when used as commodities in these concrete prisons.
