Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism
This article speaks about the Dingos on Fraser Island. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, and is off the coast of Queensland, on which some of the last remaining pure dingos live. The dingos on Fraser Island have been trapped and killed for many years now because the tourists insist on trying to befriend and feed them. It's a very serious problem, because there are so few true dingos left, and those that remain, continue to be hunted and killed due to the stupidity and arrogance of humans who visit the Island and choose to ignore the warnings and the rules not to feed or interact with the dingos.
I expect this was made a lot worse after the Azaria Chamberlain case. Hundreds of Dingos were hunted, killed and sliced open when Mr and Mrs Chamberlain claimed a dingo took their baby. Of course, no evidence was ever found to confirm their claim, and none ever will be.
I think the story of Australian Dingos is a very sad one, but I think that most Australian animals will or already have suffered a similar fate.
