Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism

Hi

I hope you have had a good start to 2014.

APA has had a very productive end to 2013 and start to this year – amongst other things we have been working hard on a very exciting new project/initiative.

Many animals are wrongly sold as ‘easy to keep’ – which commonly leads to great animal suffering and mortality, as well as unwanted animals, and public health and safety problems. APA collaborated in a team of 18 leading scientists and vets to develop a new tool that classifies animals as Easy, Moderate, Difficult or Extreme in terms of how challenging they are to keep. The system, called EMODE, has been published in an independent and peer-reviewed science journal, and is aimed at avoiding impulse pet purchases and also helping governments create restrictive lists of animals that may be kept.

Please read one of our media releases at http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-releases/exotic-pets-should-be-off...

Our new brochure about EMODE is at: http://emergentdisease.org/assets/documents/emode-brochure-screen.pdf

And, if you are really interested, the full scientific article can be found at: http://emergentdisease.org/assets/documents/EMODE.pdf

EMODE has already been welcomed by a number of major international animal welfare/conservation organisations, parliamentarians and is also receiving keen attention from governments. We are working hard on the implementation of EMODE, not just in the UK, but worldwide.

Now to the important stuff of raising funds to carry this out…

I am writing, as usual I’m afraid, to ask if you can spare any time for either of the next two APAF station collections. They are:

Cannon Street mainline station Friday 14th February 2014
Victoria mainline station Friday 4th April 2014

The collections are from 7am to 7pm and anytime at all would be greatly appreciated.

Many, many thanks for all your support

Kind regards

Kat Stuart
