A 12-feet-long python that swallowed a dog in a sugarcane field in Nehru Nagar was rescued by members of animal rights NGO with the help of forest officials on Sunday.
The female python that strayed into the sugarcane field from the adjoining Kurudimalai forests was unable to digest its prey and had been lying still for almost 72 hours with a bloated stomach when locals noticed it.
On information, Save our Snakes Association and forest officials rescued the python. During the rescue act, the python also vomited the dog, making the job of the rescuers easy.
According to Periyanaickenpalayam range officer M. Nazeer, the python, which had strayed out of the nearby Kurudimalai forest in search of food, suffered injuries while swallowing the dog and that also added to its being tired. After treatment, the snake would be released into the forest.
