Jewish survivors compare animal rights and the holocaust

Here is an article that I find quite moving.  It is a courageous thing to do after surviving the holocaust to then be able to stand up for animals and state the similarities with how we treat animals…Continue

Systematically Oppressed Vegans

For vegans who deal with any combination of sexism, racism, queerphobia, ableism as well as new-age bullying (which some of us with chronic health issues have to see constantly in communities focusing on health-veganism (plant-based cults actually), or when friends and other communities occasionally let out their inner health-freak). I don't criticise the latter unless it's directed at me because I lack time and I get rather drained dealing with ableism which is unquestionably accepted, or…See More

Having a wistful moment

Posted on November 18, 2012 at 15:38 0 Comments

One of my favourite poems by DH Lawrence.  I was reminded of this today when a young woman in a shop squashed a spider on the counter just as I said 'DON'T" and before I could stop her. I said 'why did you do that?' and she asked what I'd have done with it and I said 'put it outside.'  But I recalled being afraid of spiders as a child, my mother telling me I was afraid of them,  and how long it took me to treat them respectfully.

Remembering the fallen animals of war.

Posted on April 25, 2012 at 19:52 0 Comments

Today, April 25th, is Anzac Day in Australia when we celebrate the sacrifices of soldiers since WW1 to present day.  It is a date that comes from the Anzac (Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) soldiers who fell in the battle at Gallipoli.

What is usually forgotten is the role that animals, in particular horses, played in the wars.  The treatment they received however was anything but honourable.

The Australian Waler Horse is well known for stamina, courage and strength. …
