Hey Carolyn,

Thanks for your response. Yes there is a massive over population of cats. No chance of the cat going extinct any time soon that for sure. You are correct though humans have caused this problem and are continueing it by being selfish.

When cats are removed from the natural eco system native animals are able to come back into the area. Since i removed all the strays from my area i now have honey eaters and lorrikeets, and parrots back in my front garden. As well as native thrush, wattlebirds and crested pigeons.

I find it astonishing and also very scary how someone can write a book and get very rich of it, suck people in and have what is seen by many as a cult of followers. All with complete propaganda, lies and misinformation.

Got to hand it to Winograd he is very clever at manipulation and making a quick dollar.

I may not be reading Nath correctly, but what I'm reading is that he's against speciesism, and one form of speciesism being displayed is in TNR.

I totally understand this is a difficult and passionate topic, and I don't claim to hold any of, let alone all of, the answers.

S/N is also a rights violation, so I guess those of us who advocate for rights should oppose S/N; but we don't, because we realise it's a necessity and something which humans have created and need desperately to rectify ASAP.

I think what Nath is suggesting is that we need to reconsider if it's appropriate to release an introduced species into a habitat where they're likely to cause more destruction. I think that's a reasonable thing to be considering, particularly when that species is being released into that habitat because humans have been over indulgent and irresponsible in over and purpose breeding these other animals into existence.

I think it's great to share opinions on this issue, none of us is ever 100% correct, and it's a wonderful way to understand and learn from opposing views.

I apologise if my previous comment was disappointing. Sundays are a long day and my brain is pretty much finished for the day! :)

I find it astonishing and also very scary that you are allowed to keep libelling and slandering a member of this board.

How did you go about doing that, Nath?

I was disappointed that you didn't seem to see though Nath and his distortions or call him on his use of questionable sources. I also don't think anyone here is denying there's a problem when millions of animals are killed in "shelters"! Of course that's a problem!!! We disagree about the nature of the problem, and about which solutions are morally acceptable.

Carolyn, suppose you were picked up by the police and accused of something. A few minutes later the police realize they have the wrong person and you expect them to release you. They decide they can't release you, not because you've done anything wrong but because you're a member of a non-native species who will "cause more destruction." You automatically get the death penalty and have no right to appeal your sentence.

I think the point here is obvious. If that kind of "justice" is unacceptable for humans, why is it acceptable for cats?

Hi Tim,

Why is it that you've felt it necessary to come in here under a fake profile to attack Nath?  I recognise your profile picture from your facebook profile, and your agenda is still the same.... to attack Nath, not to have a reasonable, logical discussion, all the while saying he's slandering Nathan Winograd, when in fact, Winograd's a public figure and, as such, that opens him up to public scrutiny.

Why can you not just admit that you will just have to agree to disagree with Nath, instead of attacking him?

wtf!?

You are a nutcase. I use a nickname here and my real name on FB ... and it's not Tim.
