I know this has been discussed before but as ARZone gets new members all the time I like to revisit the topic. How do you look after yourself? We as vegans, advocates, activists see some truly awful…Continue

Tim Gier replied to Sharron Woodward's discussion Looking after yourself
"Hi Sharron!  This is a great question.  There are times when the stress of doing what we all do can be a burden, but, like most of us I suspect, I try to keep my eyes looking far ahead and focused on where we will be one day instead of…"

"Thanks for asking this question, Sharron! I think it's a really important question, and can never be asked too many times.  I spend as much time as I can at the beach, which is my favourite place to be. I also spend a lot of time playing…"

"That's interesting, Sharron. I wonder if those who were upset about this baby being killed, consider that the babies they, and most humans consume every day, are hurt and used far more.  "

Tim Gier replied to Sharron Woodward's discussion What is a hero?
"Human beings invent heroes because we want to believe that there is someone who can rise above the desperation we feel all around us - we want a mythology that makes sense of the absurdity, so we create one. So, people pretend that *if only*…"

"I think perhaps this incident, and the reaction of onlookers and those still reacting to it through social media etc, is a perfect display of speciesism.  It seems to me that the reason many onlookers were distraught was because the GW shark is…"

"Sharron, you've suggested that we use incidents such as this one to talk to people about why they don't think about the killing they don't see when a killing like this one that they do see bothers them so much. I agree with that, but…"

Animal Rights Zone replied to Sharron Woodward's discussion Being disconnected
"People seem outraged that a baby Great White Shark has been bludgeoned to death on the NSW south coast. I agree with them, this is a disgrace. But, the fact that the men who did so were "fishermen" (this means they were also…"

Will the world see peace is WE (a small percentage) just refrain from doing violence in OUR share of the space-time continuum?

During the 1960s and 1970s, faith communities that committed themselves to PEACE used terms from the Vietnam war (the War in Southeast Asia) and termed their buildings and communities 'a DMZ' - a demilitarized zone.

How effective are WE (by our not doing violence)?

How tempting it must be for those who want to have an impact to want to scale up their own use of power, rather than to back off. But 'escalation' of violence seems to make things much worse (or does it)? What is effective, and what did Mohandas K. Gandhi teach about Satyagraha? Is that morally and strategically TRUE, or is it not?
