Tom Regan ~ The Sword of Justice, The Torch of Reason
Animal rights philosopher, and "one of fifty visionaries who are changing the world" (Utne Reader), Professor Tom Regan delivered this inspirational keynote address to a rally in Los Angeles in April 1988. Tom's speech, titled "The Sword of Justice, The Torch of Reason", is still considered by many to be "The greatest animal rights speech ever given".
Twenty six years after giving this speech, Professor Regan sat down with Gary Comstock to speak about the events leading up to this speech, and if he had any regrets. That interview can be found here:

Tom Regan was the first theorist to ‘get ‘rights’ across the species barrier." Therefore, he can be credited with breaching that hitherto solid defensive ethical barrier based exclusively on species membership

WOW. I've seen couple of videos of Tom where he spoke very calmly. Here he's expressing vibrant emotions and delivering a passionate speech that's just as relevant now as it was in 1988. I've been vegan since July 2014 and often wonder why it took me so long. I'm forever grateful for those who have been living vegan for decades, and remained committed to advocacy despite the seemingly impossible task of creating a vegan world. You are the rock which supports the movement.

1989 - What an inspiring time in the AR movement - Thanks to Tom Regan and so many other activists for carrying the torch of justice, reason, and compassion.
