Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism

Local Vegan Groups. Check this list to see if there is a Local Vegan Group near you.

A LIST OF LOCAL VEGAN GROUPS.

I thought of this thread re-listening to ARZone's first special podcast about Vegan buddies. Ronnie Lee spoke about the importance of local vegan groups (something that Neil Lea was particularly keen on).

As well as getting support from the ARZone VB mentors, new vegans can get help and advice from their local group - if there is one.

Therefore this thread has been started for people to list the contact details of the local vegan groups that they are aware of. [Speaking for myself, I would prefer that vegetarian groups are not included in the list.]

So, please add the groups you know and try to provide as much up-to-date information that there is about the group - email addresses, contact names, websites, phone numbers (with permission), etc, etc. Please try to ensure that these details are current and not out of date.

By this means, new vegans visiting the Vegan Buddies group can see if there are local vegan groups near to them.

If the information was listed here in the comments first, we could then transfer it to a separate page. We could even have separate pages for each country.

I immediately thought of the Sacramento Vegetarian Society, somewhat near where I'm staying in Stockton, who are mostly vegans as I understand... at least everyone I know in the group is vegan. I haven't made it to any of their functions yet.

Sacramento (88 miles inland from San Francisco) is home to the greater Bay Area's only vegan shop, as well as vegan restaurants.

The facebook page, unlike other vegetarian facebook groups I've seen, don't get up in arms about animal rights, antispeciesism, animal protection, and veganism.

I would like to add Vegan Australia. This group is only just getting up and running, but I expect we'll have a great group very soon.

The Vegan Society of New South Wales, in Sydney Australia are a great group as well, and are organised by an amazing committee.

The Vegan Society NSW is a community-based, non-profit organisation in New South Wales, Australia. It was begun in 1981 by Myer Samra and Bill Westerman and incorporated in 1998 by David Horton.

Our members are people who care about animal rights, human wellbeing and the environment. Our aim is to promote the many benefits of veganism and provide quality service, support and up-to-date information to vegans and the general community.

There is a vegan meetup group in Boone, North Carolina, USA

email:  vegboone@gmail.com

Website:   http://www.meetup.com/VegBoone/

Contacts:  Larry and Jeanne Kaiser

I am no longer in the Kansas City area. I am now in Florida, but I still wanted to share this with you. This group meets monthly to eat at vegan/veg restaurants or where there is a vegan/veg section of the menu and they have a lot on their site. I know it isn't 100% vegan, but it is a start for someone in the area to get into a vegan network. http://www.vegkansascity.com/

I hope this helps.

The following are groups in England in which I'm involved. All are happy to help new vegans.

Hi Billy,

I want to add a group that I organize for vegans in Los Angeles, California & Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to explore veganism as a spiritual practice:  www.veganspirituality.com, www.vegan-spirituality.blogspot.com, www.facebook.com/VeganSpiritualityCommunity

We offer monthly vegan discussion groups and annual spirituality retreats featuring vegan speakers, yoga, nature hikes, vegan food, community rituals, and animal blessings.

I also co-founded Public Eye: Artists for Animals, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching compassion for animals through the visual & performing arts: www.publiceyephilly.org & on Facebook.

Here are a few other organizations in Philly: The Humane League, Peace Advocacy Network, CARE

In Los Angeles, CA: The Vegan Toolbox, The Veg Monologues, The Paw Project

In San Diego & Orange County, CA: Animal Protection & Rescue League

Many Thanks,

Lisa Levinson

Here's a few groups I know of in California's Central Valley:

Chico Vegan Meetup

Chico, CA

Visalia Vegan Meetup

Visalia, CA

Central Valley Animal Liberation

Clovis, CA

Mission:
To publicize the exploitation of farmed animals, promote animal liberation, explain and encourage the practice of the vegan lifestyle, and organize vegan social events.

Description:

We are an advocacy and social group based in Clovis, CA. Everyone is welcome, regardless of dietary and other lifestyle choices, but members should be interested in the ideal of animal liberation or the practice of a vegan lifestyle.

Animal liberation is a state of affairs in which all non-human animals are wild and living freely. Veganism is a way of life that rejects the exploitation of other animals. More specifically, vegans abstain from all goods produced by exploiting or intentionally harming sentient animals. Those goods include meat, poultry, fish, milk, cheese, butter, eggs, wool, and leather.

We believe that all sentient animals should be respected and that we best respect other animals by allowing them to live freely and on their own terms. Those domesticated species that cannot survive in the wild should still be respected and cared for without exploitation.

We have a one year old vegan meet up group in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA

Over 100 members so far.

We do everything from food demos to films to rock climbing to potluck and games to dine-outs at local restaurants....
