A little help re animal rights and Australian universities

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone knows which Australian university has the most vibrant animal rights academic culture.  I have been out of the university system for well over a year now, and as my Masters was in Classics, I didn't really have much to do with other disciplines. 

I am considering undertaking a PhD, probably in philosophy as that was my second major, which tackles something within the animal rights arena.  As I am no longer in contact with anyone within philosophy, I'm a little bit stumped and do not know where to begin looking.

Hi Stevie.  You might contact this group   http://www.aasg.org.au/archives/870   for some information.

Also some universities have now introduced animal rights subjects in their law courses, ANU and Melbourne but not sure where else.  Voiceless  http://www.voiceless.org.au/   put on an annual law lecture and might also be able to help.

You might also have some luck contacting Professor Steve Garlick. He was a recent ARZone chat guest, is an ARZone member and is the Founding President of the Animal Justice Party. He also holds professorial positions at two Australian Universities. 

I would imagine Steve would be happy to offer his advice, he's a very nice man.

If you search in ARZone for his name, and send him a message, that would be the best way to contact him.
