Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism
Congratulations to ARZone member and contributor Spencer Lo, for being named by the Nonhuman Rights Project as their volunteer of the month, for November 2012.
Spencer, a recent graduate of Pace Law School, was intrigued by the arguments presented by the NhRP when it filed a brief as an amicus curiae in the 2011 PETA v. SeaWorld Thirteenth Amendment lawsuit. So he then attended Steven Wise’s lecture at Columbia Law School in February 2012, and immediately applied to volunteer as part of the NhRP’s predictive analytics working group.
He is now a member of the habeas corpus sub-working group.
“Volunteering with NhRP is an incredible opportunity, especially for law students since important, cutting edge work is being done to advance the cause of non-human animals,” said Spencer. “The research skills and knowledge I’ve picked up will certainly prove useful in my future legal career. So to potential volunteers, my advice would be to jump at the opportunity.”
In addition to his work for the NhRP, Spencer also volunteers with ARZone, where he is helping to develop a section devoted to publishing academic papers on issues surrounding animal rights. He also blogs on animal issues at Animal Blawg. He is also interested in prisoner rights issues, specifically the inherent cruelties of solitary confinement, which is the topic of a law review article he is currently co-writing with a professor at Pace Law.
On behalf of the animals, and everyone at the NhRP, thanks so much Spencer for all of your hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

ARZone also appreciates Spencer's hard work, dedication and patience. Thanks, Spencer!
