Dr.Howes’ research explores the relationship between violence and
politics. His talk will address the relationship between politics and
violence, the implications of this relationship fo...r political life, and
the lessons to be learned. The argument will draw on Dr. Howes’ book,
“Toward a Credible Pacifism: Violence and the Possibilities of
Politics” (2009, SUNY Press), which lays the groundwork for a
distinctly political brand of pacifism. The central claim of the work
is that violence is no more reliable than other methods of conducting
politics.
