Sting is Like a Butterfly

Imagine it’s the early 1940s: World War II. Hitler is engaged in perpetrating the most horrendous atrocity of the twentieth century. He and his army are attempting to take over the world and eliminate all Jewish people in the process. Something must be done! Hitler must be stopped. He’s about to envelop this entire planet in a dark cloud of evil. Not only will the Jewish race be extinct, we will all be his slaves. The world will suffer by his hands.

The world is angry! The world is crying out to stop Hitler before he can go any further. Every day that passes is a day he can kill more innocent human beings.

But there is another cry. There is another collective of voices in the crowd. They are not demanding that Hitler be stopped in his tracks by any means necessary. They have a different idea! They think that we should engage Germany in dialogue. They believe that debates would be most effective to stop the Holocaust and not hurt the German Army’s feelings. They want to give the German Army a big hug and tell them just how much they are loved. Besides, the soldiers are just doing their jobs and they believe that what they are doing is right. In fact, in Germany it is perfectly legal to take Jewish people as captives, abuse them and slaughter them. It is legal to bring the Jewish people to extinction because “the Jews are pests.”

There is a holocaust going on right now in Taiji, Japan. Dolphins are being taken captive, abused and slaughtered. If you are thinking, “Oh! But those are dolphins. That’s different!” then maybe you haven’t heard that dolphins are just as intelligent as people and have even been declared by the scientific community that they should be given “non-human person status.” If you have heard it and you are still hollering to hug the fishermen, then you just don’t believe it! That sets you apart from the majority of us that do. That shows why you aren’t as serious about stopping this holocaust as we are. That demonstrates why you think we should take the time to “create internal dialogue” and not apply external pressure. Meanwhile, yet another dolphin can die!

Well, guess what! I believe that dolphins are worth more than the time it would take to give your hugs and have your debates. I believe that the killings need to stop NOW! We can patch up hurt feelings later. We are talking about lives here; lives of innocent sentient beings. I do not want to see another one lost at the hands of the Taiji Nazis!

So, how do we stop it right now? We can’t, but Sting could! If he would just march himself down to Taiji right now and become a Cove Guardian for a few weeks, that would do the trick. The fishermen would be fools to attempt a hunt while Sting is there, especially when you consider the media presence. While Sting is in Taiji, Japanese citizens would flock to The Cove. They just love celebrities. While the Japanese people are in Taiji, they will be educated by Sting and the other Cove Guardians on what is happening there. Libby and Nicole can even break out the videos for everyone. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that this will work!

But let’s face it. Sting is like a butterfly, not a bee. He is one of those voices in the crowd that says we should take a slow approach while dolphins are being slaughtered. He contradicts himself. He said, “I think we only ever evolve as a species when we’re in crisis.” Then he said, “You can’t separate the way we treat animals from the way we treat each other.” This man does not believe in the intelligence of the majestic sentient dolphins that are being killed. If you can’t separate the way we treat animals from the way we treat each other, then we should not be trying to negotiate with and enlighten Hitler! Think about it!

So what do we do? We have to get the attention of the stars and we have to do it now! Send links of the video, “Where Are You Now?” and “The Cove -PSA” to every one of your local news media publications and stations. Post them in forums, in facebook, MySpace and add them to your YouTube channel. Tweet them, email them and even download them to put on a DVD so you can play them at your local TV appliances store. Send the link to this article to every activist you know and post it in every activist site you can. If you have your own blog or website, please copy and paste this entire article to it. I don’t care one iota if you mention my name or give me credit. It will take you two seconds longer to do that and that is two seconds too many. What is important is that we save our dolphin friends, NOW!

If you are a star and you are on set, what better way to promote your movie than to pack up the whole film crew and head to Taiji Right Now! If you really want to stop the slaughter, you will go now! There is nothing stopping you unless you really just don’t consider the dolphins that important.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am a scientist myself, so I like the appeal to scientific evidence! I agree, most people know nothing about these issues and care less. To them, the ocean is long, long way away -- and even if not geographically, in their minds.

I couldn't agree more, but it isn't the point of my post. There are many activists who want to take a slow loving approach and change the hearts of the killers. My point is that they would not be acting this way if it were human families being killed. They obviously do not regard all life as sacred, so I am therefore attempting to appeal to the scientific aspect.

 

Furthermore, there are may people who are simply not educated on these issues. 'The Cove' movie has a way of turning people into activists. In the process, they learn more about the world and not just the dolphins. This post is meant to appeal to those who still consider animals as a lower form of life. These dolphins must be saved, no question about that. What is being done to them is evil. But the fact that they have human-like intelligence and emotions is not a reason to save them. It is wrong to kill, abuse or exploit any animal. "Intelligent" or not, all animals are equally sentient!
