Twelve animal rights activists were arrested on Wednesday morning by the Spanish police, in a series of raids sanctioned by the judge from the Magistrate's court, Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain.

Igualdad Animal/Animal Equality and Equanimal are committed to non-violent activism and dedicate their efforts to raising public awareness of animal rights, by informing society of the consequences of the consumption of animal products and the promotion of alternatives.

URGENT: CALL TO JOIN THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST THE REPRESSION OF THE ANIMAL RIGHTS MOVEMENT THIS SATURDAY 23 JULY

 The animal rights movement in Spain is facing one of its most difficult periods and this SATURDAY 23 JULY we need your help to show the media and society the strength of GLOBAL SUPPORT. Two of the largest organisations in Spain, Equanimal andAnimal Equality, are being targeted by the state in retaliation for their powerful undercover investigations that have woken up the Spanish public to the shocking reality of farms, slaughterhouses, bullfights, laboratories and other areas where animals are routinely abused and killed.

 

Twelve activists – the heads and spokespersons of the above groups – have been arrested and charged with a list of offences from the mass release of minks to arson in bullrings, which the activists deny having any part in. Nevertheless they could be facing years in prison. The police and judge in the case are now facing legal proceedings from the groups in response to a number of incidents signalling that this case is a set-up and a farce.

In the face of this clear repression against animal advocates for peaceful campaigning and non-violent direct action, we need WORLDWIDE SOLIDARITY to show the press and the public that we will not be silenced and will continue to speak out against and expose the animal exploitation industries, and that we should not be arrested or charged for crimes we have not committed.

 

The Spanish press picked up on our last global day of protests, and we wish to gain even more media exposure from the protests THIS SATURDAY 23 JULY.

 

For the sake of the future of the animal rights movement in Spain, and to demonstrate that worldwide, animal advocates will not tolerate repression in any country, PLEASE JOIN THE PROTESTS.
