Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism
Each year in Namibia, 85 000 baby seals are cruelly beaten to death for their fur in. A further 6 000 adult bull seals are shot at point blank range so that their genitals can be used to make ineffective sex potions for the Asian market.
In the hope of ending this brutal massacre, I made representations to the Namibian ombudsman along with other leading industry role players such as IFAW, Sea Shepherd, the NSPCA, Seal Alert etc. in September of 2011. At this meeting, I presented the government of Namibia with a 10 000 signature petition from the international community calling for an end of the slaughter. The outcome of that meeting is yet to be decided. The ombudsman, Adv. John Walters has indicated that he will present his findings regarding the future of the seal hunt before the end of May 2012.
To apply additional pressure, The Seals Of Nam went one step further and has called for a moratorium on all seal clubbing in Namibia. We generated a petition with over 22 000 signatures which again was delivered to Walters. We are asking that YOU take further action by emailing the office of the ombudsman requesting that this atrocious slaughter be halted with immediate effect.
You are able to email Adv Walters on the following addresses
The Seals Of Nam has taken the further initiative to create yet another petition, this one targeting the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources. This Avaaz petition, which was launched 5 days ago has already generated over 5 500 signatures. Please would you be so kind as to add YOUR name to this document which will be presented to the Hon. Bernard Esau before the start of the annual bloodbath in July.
