Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism
The article notes: "600,000 deaths from AIDS in this country and about 30 million around the globe...". I suppose that it is the fact of those deaths which has made possible whatever progress that has been made in the struggle for equality. Those deaths, touching as they did on millions of lives that prior to the AIDS epidemic were able to pretend that Gays were "others" completely unlike themselves, made the humanity of GLBTQ folks concrete and undeniable. As much as I respect and value the protests, marches and demonstrations from the GLBTQ community, I believe that those efforts would have continued to have been in vain had the ugly reality of AIDS not forced decent people to consider change.
