Fighting for animal liberation and an end to speciesism

Uniting the voices of East and West against the skinning and boiling of *live* dogs and cats.

Dear all,

this does happen. I found out about it via a petition (this focussed on China and called for a boycott of the country). I did some research and got in touch with some individuals and organisations in China and South Korea including Hong Kong Animal Speak and KARA. I have articles about the dish entitled 'live boiled cat' which is on sale in some restaurants in China. You've probably seen the PETA film of the racoon dog being skinned alive. You may not have seen the films from China, South Korea and Thailand of dogs being put into vats of boiling water while they are still alive. I have articles and films produced in China, South Korea and Thailand which I can send to the skeptical.

What effect did this have on me. I could not sleep at night. My younger sister, Stephanie, was the same. We started an Avaaz petition a few weeks ago. Rather than calling for a boycott of these countries, we wanted to do something different and reach out to the people in these places who care and are trying to stop this nightmare from happening. Our campaign aims to unite Eastern and Western voices in pursuit of legislation against those who knowingly create and fulfil the demand for dogs and cats tortured in this way.

Through contacts I had Chinese and Korean translations of the petition produced. I'm also active on 'the Chinese Twitter' Weibo and so far have 230 followers. A Chinese animal rights activist showed me how to produce an electronic form so that people in mainland China could give their details and permission for me to sign on their behalf, thereby forgoing the need to actively circumvent their government's internet censorship. In addition, Professor Andrew Chang Young Fei of the National Taiwan University has publicly supported the petition on his facebook page and has been kind enough to provide me with his email address so that I might seek his help on this matter in the future.

There's still lots of work to do. We don't have any Thai contacts. And it is hard getting people to give a damn, believe me. But we have nearly reached 10,000 signatures. This has been mainly the work of myself alone as Stef has been tied up with all sorts of musical commitments in London (She is a flautist).

We want and need a lot more than this. Can anyone on this forum sign and help to spread the petition further?

Any help and advice on your part would be hugely appreciated. Any questions are welcomed.

Thanks so much for reading!
